The Scottish capital of Edinburgh is a historic city of art, higher education and political and spiritual influence. It is also the epicenter of a growing resurgence of interest in the role of the "Celtic lands" in spreading the Gospel to Europe and beyond. East Mountain desires to partner with British and European Christian leaders to see this kind of movement happen! We seek to be "a catalyst for the catalysts" and to create a community where leaders can be nourished spiritually, formed theologically and released to live out the East Mountain Rule of Life in various contexts across the continent of Europe. It is our dream to see European Christian leaders connected to their God, their own hearts and to each other; a vast web of relationships that will stretch throughout Europe and bring life, renewal and revival across a dark continent!
Missional communities such as East Mountain have a long history in the United Kingdom. The introduction of Christianity to Scotland by Irish missionaries in the centuries following the Fall of Rome (5th century) saw numerous vibrant communities spring up. These communities exerted great influence in the spiritual formation, leadership development and political fortunes of the nation. Out of these communities came kings and poets, philosophers, historians and missionaries. There is a growing desire in our day to see these kind of communities again exert great influence. There is also a dawning recognition in the "Celtic lands" (Scotland, Ireland, England and Wales) that God is in the process of renewing a spiritual history and reawakening these nations to their former sense of calling and mission. In this historic moment we at East Mountain Scotland desire to be a part of this movement by investing in pastors, missionaries, biblical scholars, church planters and para-church leaders to participate in relationally driven, community centric, multi-cultural learning environments.
East Mountain UK will launch in January of 2018 with the establishment of a United World Mission family in the Edinburgh area. Other missionary families will join soon afterward. Already, East Mountain has several strong potential Scottish and English partners who have invited us to be a part of a growing movement of Celtic lands churches and thought leaders. We see God's Providential hand in these friendships and look forward to extending the East Mountain global movement to the UK and across Europe.

Two families, the Furrs and the Johnsons, have the mutual dream of establishing an East Mountain Community in a part of the world where the church struggles to remember its relevance and mission.
Together with their children, these families are currently fundraising and sharing their vision, praying for the Lord to bring more people to join this adventure. They will be moving to Scotland to launch the EM-UK community soon, and we wait with excitement to see all that will come of their presence there!
