At East Mountain, we value and pursue intentional community which we believe is the product of care and consistent relationship building. We currently hold two weekly community-building initiatives a week to help our community thrive: the weekly braai and house groups.
A braai is a quintessential South African social gathering. It involves friends gathering over a barbeque, grilling meat, enjoying the outdoors, and spending a slow evening gathered around the table. Every week, members from our community gather together to connect with one another over a meal and shared time in worship and prayer.
Our house groups are comprised of smaller gatherings of members of our community that meet on a weekly basis with one another. This time allows for members to intentionally build community in a smaller group while studying the Bible together. House groups members also work together to facilitate braais and invite local partners to connect with.
East Mountain's Rule of Life
Our rule is descriptive of the way we live and work together for the glory of God.
We are a people who seek to Abide in Christ.
Jesus said that the first and greatest commandment is to love the Lord our God with all of your heart, all of your soul and all of your strength. The starting point for our life together is life in Christ. Through his blood we are sons and daughters of the Lord our God, invited to be with God and with his people. The strength to live in community and carry out our God given assignments comes from our union and communion with Christ.
We are a people who seek to Love our Neighbour.
Jesus said that the second commandment is to love our neighbour as ourselves. As we abide in Christ we receive the life and power to love one another, enjoying the benefits of being the family of God and demonstrating the values of the Kingdom before a lost and dying world.
We are a people who choose to Live in Community.
Life in Christ is life with his people. God reveals his glory through the very body of Christ, so that where two or more of his people are gathered he is present with them. We believe that our ministry and mission must flow out of who we are as a gathered Kingdom people.
We are a people who seek to Partner for the Kingdom.
Our Community is one part of a big Kingdom. We desire to forge deep friendships with other leaders and communities that result in greater unity and impact for the glory of God.
We are a people who seek to Disciple Leaders.
Our calling is to be a sacred space for those entrusted with leadership gifts and responsibilities. We desire to walk with leaders helping them to become deep people who abide in Christ, love their neighbour, seek to play their part in the Big Story with intentionality, and disciple others for the glory of God.
